C’mon!! You think that at that age, you can put them on a diet of milk???? You surely don’t have any kids!!!

    Erin Reply:

um… yes! you can put them on a diet of some kind!
…and I am 5 weeks pregnant. I will never allow my precious child to become that disgustingly unhealthy.

Exactly…you don’t have any PRECIOUS child yet!!! I have 3 of them, a 17, a 16 and a 6 years old…really healty too!!! Not over weight, not anorexic either!!!
I work for doctors…and let me tell you if you don’t give the milk your baby is asking for…you are the one that is wrong!!! So good luck for the little one… he’s going to need it!!!

Actually babies need formula or breastmilk up to 1 year of age.. and after that full fat homogenized milk.. the fat is extremely important for growth and development (especially of the brain)…

He looks like he’s 6-8 months old.. he’ll grow out of it.

I’m not a father, but I’m fairly sure that it’s OK and common for babies to be a bit fat before they really start crawling/walking. He’ll easily lose that fat once he’s more mobile.

Five weeks pregnant. You’re an expert, clearly. Seriously, look up the term ‘baby fat’, genius. Maybe it will save your child from child abuse by starvation because their mother is a Cosmo-reading moron.

Really? Like Kirsten said you are a Cosmo Reading MORON! You need to put your baby on a diet, but not the type of diet you have in your head. They need to drink milk and also have meat and veggies. Seriously I can’t stand people like you. Have you ever thought that this photo could be photoshopped as well??? STUPID BEATCH!

Wow – everyone is being so harsh. I agree, baby fat is normal and health and babies need to be well nourished but information is usually better received if it’s give in a constructive manner.

Erin wants her kid to be healthy. That’s great. She could use some clarification on what that is, there is no need to hate all over her.

    Erin,
Your baby will be doing an incredible amount of growing and developing during his or her first few years. According to Harvard Medical School’s Intelhealth website, newborn babies gain about 15 pounds in the first year of life. One half of this weight gain takes place within the first four months of life. This growth spurt requires more energy than any other growth period throughout infancy or childhood. A lot of energy is needed for that. If you are lucky enough to be able to breastfeed your child, he will let you know when he has had enough. Your milk is specially formulated to have the right composition for your baby, and to contain exactly the right amounts of nutrients, including fat, protien, and iron. Formula provides some of the things your breastmilk has, but is harder to digest.

While the child appears to be “fat”, it also appears that he is too young for solid food, i.e., he is still drinking breastmilk or formula. It does not mean he is unhealthy or will continue to be “fat” for the rest of his life. As he gets older, his appearance will depend upon his diet and activities. Don’t judge him now.

You SERIOUSLY need to get over this obsession that everything is unhealthy if it has fat on it. That child will grow up happy and healthy just because the baby does have jelly rolls which allow the child’s body to develop correctly and not malnourished.

My daughter was 10 days old, we followed the books and pamphlets religiously on feeding formula. On day 10 she began to cry non stop, it was a Sunday. I had our Doctors home number and after 4 hours called him, first question he asked WHAT HAVE YOU FED HER. I said “Just like the books said “formula” His words? FEED HER!! Mix some rice cereal with her formula and allow her to eat till her body says enough.

I did exacly what he said as a loving father. She gulped down the mix we becan to feed her to her needs not some retarded book or guide. She grew into a lovely young lady, never overweight and outgrew her “baby fat and jelly rolls” without problem or issue. FAT IS NOT UNHEALTHY!!! Especially in a baby. Do not starve a child because some half wit book said only feed “this much” we have enough problems with weight obsessed children and adults as it is, more fall dead each week due to that illness.

It’s not a choice for a child to be that fat….. I have a friend who was almost that fat as a baby, but now he’s a very fast runner. So it’s not like it’s a guarantee that he’ll be like that forever. Sometimes it just happens!

OMG! And I thought my kids had rolls!!! They’ve got nothing on this kiddo! Oh and for anyone who thinks this baby is obese….seriously, learn a little about normal infant diets. It’s ok for babies to be incredibly fat, especially breastfed ones. My kids were super fat on breastmilk and are now very slim 2 and 4 1/2 year olds. I was a fat baby too (triple chins!) and was a small, slim child. Putting a baby on a diet can affect their brain growth. You’ll have a slim baby, but possibly not without consequences.

Reminds me of my god child. She was just like that, rolls upon rolls. Once she hit three she lost it all (cause she could finally walk), but her reason was, She wasn’t getting enought brest milk, so when her mother swiched her to forumula she gained weight. Doc said she was perfectly fine. Was still funny when my friend would find “chreey-o’s” in her rolls.

You should see my little tub. Breast-fed babies tend to get a little chubby simply because they have access to an endless supply. This is the period where their brains grow at a phenomenal rate, so it’s probably a good idea to make sure they are getting the vital fats required (perhaps at your own vanity’s expense) – and the type of fat they are acquiring is not the same as the abdominal ‘deadly’ fat that older children are packing on.

First of all he is very cute & looks extremely happy…I’m sure he will grow out of it once he starts crawling and walking..I have a 8month old baby and you will quickly learn whenever he is hungry you feed him no matter how much he wants…doctors will tell you the same thing and shame on you for calling a baby disgusting. I’d hate to have such a critical mother..hopefully you never speak about your child that way.

fat babies make for tall children. They need to put on the fat so they can grow. Even children tend to stalk up on fat before shooting up. Most fats are very good for you and you need a certain amount per day.

I don’t have kids, but I did have a little sister. When she came home she was super pudgy, but as soon as she could crawl she burned all of that off. She’s almost six now, and way way way slimmer than I was, but she’s a bottomless pit. She can never get enough food. My mom fed her on mostly breastmilk, and some formula. She is also SUPER tall, like 4′2” and she’s only six!!!!

This child looks healthy and happy. Our child (now 17, very tall and slim) was also heavy as a baby. We noticed that he would gain weight until he looked “fat”, and then, very suddenly, shoot up an inch or two. (like a caterpillar scrunching up, and then moving forward) Then the process would start over. It was as if he was storing up the energy needed for each growth spurt. I’ve talked with other mothers and they noticed the same thing with their children. I suspect that this child will be like that as well. I wouldn’t worry about it.
